Are diet pills dangerous for teenagers?

Jennifer September 2nd, 2011

I’m 17 years old, will be 18 in March. I’ve been taking the pill Hydroxycut for a few weeks, and now i’m up to 5 pills a day. I’m not actually overweight or anything, I use it as an appetite suppressant so I don’t eat over 1100 calories or so a day. Do diet pills actually work for weight loss, or do they have bad side effects to them?

I cant feel full!!!! Help!!!?

Jennifer December 3rd, 2010

I eat really well and I really feel like my food portions are perfect and I get enough water, fiber and protein. Problem is, I cant get rid of that hungry "hollow", "growly" feeling in my stomach! Its really uncomfortable and of course it makes me want to go eat more and I’m constantly thinking about it because its hard to ignore. Does anyone know of any supplements or anything that can make my stomach feel "full"? I was reading about Hoodia and I know its an appetite suppressant but does that mean it will reduce my appetite or will it make my stomach feel full and satiated? I eat really well and exercise plenty and am at a plateau so, the last thing I want is to eat more and this problem isnt helping me drop this last 5-10lbs! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Is it pointless to go your family doctor for weight loss?

Jennifer November 2nd, 2010

Like, what will your family doctor do if you tell him/her you wanna lose weight? Will he/she help you or will he/she just send you to a dietitian? Also, can he/she prescribe any sort of diet pills? or appetite suppressants?

Thank you!

Do I have a problem?

Jennifer April 27th, 2010

A few of my friends have told me they think I have an eating disorder. I do not think this is true, so to clear things up with them I went online and took a few eating disorder tests. Disturbingly, I scored high on all of them. I am obsessed with calories, feel terribly fat, and hate eating food and all, but who doesn’t? For the past year I’ve had absolutely no appetite whatsoever (I told my doctor and she ordered blood work which was fine), and for the past few months after I eat about half of what most people would consider a meal I feel incredibly nauseous and sick. I told my doctor about this too, and she put me on acid suppressants. So she doesn’t seem to think there’s a problem, but we never did look into more than just "I feel sick after I eat."

So, my question is … how do I know if I have a problem? I don’t want to bother my doctor with this unless there actually is an issue, but how do I know if there is an issue? I haven’t lost a lot of weight, and I know what anorexia is "supposed" to look like – my good friend is anorexic.
Just to clarify a bit more – I know eating disorders are dangerous. I know all about them; I’ve done my homework and written papers on them (university). I’m not trying to develop one, and if I have one I want to get help. However, if I do not have a problem then I do not want to bother my doctor. She’s busy helping people who have real problems.

And by the way, I take vitamins and some suplements. I’m not trying to kill myself.
And another addition (I’m reading your answers; thank you people) – when I say "half a normal meal," I’m comparing to my mother and sister. I am 5′3", my mother is 5′, my sister is 5′4". Neither of them have weight issues and they both eat very healthy. My mother is Chinese (like actually born/raised in China) and always cooks healthy. Meals are full of vegetables, full of color, and overall healthy. I forgot to mention that earlier, but we don’t eat like most North Americans. We’ve always had healthy food on the table, and my parents have always been dead against anything sweet, salty, junky, and overall empty calories.
